The private drive to Gamekeeper Cottage is situated off the A262 between Sissinghurst and Biddenden, one mile outside Sissinghurst. At the top of the drive there is a white sign for “Copden House”.

From London and the M25
Take the M25. Exit at junction 5 turning for Sevenoaks/Tonbridge/Hastings on to the A21. Leave the M25 and proceed south on the A21 towards Tonbridge/Hastings. The A21 is a dual carriageway but goes to single carriageway a few times. After around 25 minutes, and at the third roundabout, turn left on to the A262, signposted to Goudhurst. Continue straight through Goudhurst towards Cranbrook on the A262.

After 10 minutes you come to a large roundabout. Straight over to Sissinghurst.

Through Sissinghurst and straight out towards Biddenden – stay on the A262. As you are leaving Sissinghurst, on the left there is a large brown sign for the turning into Sissinghurst Gardens - do not turn here but keep going towards Biddenden on the A262. The driveway to Gamekeeper Cottage is on the right hand side just off the A262 exactly 0.8 miles from the sign to Sissinghurst Gardens.

From the turn off to Sissinghurst Gardens, the A262 goes round a few bends then the road goes down a hill and gets dark and overhung by trees (but not in winter!). There are four black and white bollards on the right. As soon as you see them slow down and indicate right (some crazy drivers so give them lots of time). After around 10 metres there is a white sign on the right for Copden House. Turn right at the sign and Gamekeeper is at the end of that drive on the left side.

If you get to a right turn for The Nightingales or get to the Three Chimneys you have gone too far!

Please note that during the summer months the A21 can be very busy and you might be faster driving around the M25 onto the M20, past Maidstone and exiting the M20 at junction 8, past Leeds Castle, through Sutton Valence and down to Biddenden, then see below for directions from Biddenden.

From Dover and Folkestone
Take the M20. Exit at Junction 9 signposted for Ashford/Tenterden. Proceed along the A28 signposted for Tenterden. Proceed through High Halden and then towards Biddenden – do not turn off for Tenterden. In the centre of Biddenden turn left on the A262 towards Cranbrook. Stay on that road and the turn-off is after approximately 3 miles. Proceed through Biddenden and out of the village. The road comes to a very windy and dark section. On the left there is a sign for “The Nightingales”. The private drive for Gamekeeper is 100 metres after that sign on the left side – there is a sign for “Copden House”. Turn left at that sign into the drive and the cottage is at the bottom of the drive on the left. If you come to Sissinghurst Castle or Sissinghurst you have gone too far.

We advise you to check with AA roadwatch before leaving, and the RAC route planner is also useful.
